Student Information

College Calendar
Due to the four day instructional week, the College does not recognize many federal holidays. The Registrar’s Office issues an annual official calendar of events and holidays at the time of registration. Please consult the calendar for specific dates and events.

Student Conduct...
The College desires to create and maintain an environment of friendship, equality, and exceptional educational value. As a statement of principles, the College calls attention to its character as a professional institution. In that light, and as a consequence of these principles, gambling, the use of alcoholic beverages or controlled substances, and general conduct unbecoming a professional student will not be tolerated. The use before, during, between or possession thereof, any contraband is strictly prohibited. Contraband includes any illegal substance, alcohol, weapons, etc. Infractions of accepted rules of good behavior will receive disciplinary action by the administration. If the violation persists, the actions are repeated, the action is illegal, or of a serious nature, the student is subject to termination from the program.

The purpose of scheduling quizzes and examinations is to determine the percentage of material learned by the student. Unless complete honesty and integrity is applied, the true value of academic accomplishment is immeasurable. If an instructor or proctor suspects or has evidence that a student is displaying dishonesty during an examination, the student must forfeit the examination and responses to the instructor or proctor. If the student was in fact displaying dishonesty the student will be dismissed from the College.

Conduct of Classes...
Classes are held Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 8:00 am until 2:10 pm. These hours may vary the second six months of the program due to assigned laboratory classes. Each class period is fifty minutes in length, with a ten minute break between classes. Students are to remain seated during the entire class period, as leaving and returning during the class hour is disruptive to both the instructor and the other students. Arrival to class after the specified time, or departure before the specified time, will constitute an absence for the entire class period, unless the student has been excused by the instructor in charge. The College requests that students refrain from reading newspapers, novels, or any other material with the exception of notebooks and textbooks that pertain to that particular course. All students must conform to the classroom rules set forth by the instructor in charge.

The administration will notify the students in the classroom or laboratory if the instructor is delayed or unable to teach the class. Any alterations will be explained or a substitute will be arranged.

Attendance...
Class attendance is a necessary part of the educational process of the College. The student should be aware that achievement will depend, to a substantial degree upon the class attendance. A record is made of each student’s attendance during the year. The instructor takes roll at the beginning of every scheduled session. Each student is permitted eighty hours of unexcused absence per year. A student will not be permitted to graduate if (s)he exceeds eighty hours. A student will require permission from the administration to continue a subsequent quarter after exceeding twenty hours of unexcused absence in the first quarter. Permission to attend in a subsequent quarter will be allowed if the student satisfies the administration that it is reasonable to believe the student will complete the entire course with less than eighty hours of total unexcused absence.

Excused absences consist of:
 • a physician’s letter stating that the student visited the office due to illness
 • attending the funeral of a close family member
 • an interview for an apprentice position documented by the perspective employer
 • documented jury duty or other court ordered obligations
 • documented National Guard or other military duties

All other absences are considered unexcused and will be counted towards the total eighty hours allowable.

If a student is absent during quarterly examinations for any of the above reasons, (an excused absence), (s)he must make arrangement with the instructor(s) and the administration for an alternate date and time, and will not be subject to any penalties.

If a student is absent during quarterly examinations due to an unexcused absence, (s)he must make arrangements with the instructor(s) and administration for an alternate date and time, and is subject to a penalty of five points deducted from the achieved score as well as an examination fee of thirty dollars.

Student Housing and Employment
Worsham College does not provide on-campus housing, however, the College does offer assistance in locating suitable living facilities in three categories:

1. Funeral Homes - Many out-of-state students work and live in local funeral homes in an effort to gain valuable experience, save on living costs, and earn a nominal wage. Worsham College students have set a high standard of performance in the past and are eagerly sought by area employers.

2. Apartments - Some students elect to live in apartments affording the student more personal time attending the College. The Registrar’s Office maintains a list of students interested in sharing apartments.

3. Private Homes - the Center of Concern is an agency that pairs Worsham College Students with clients in Wheeling and neighboring townships that have rooms for rent in their homes, complete with kitchen privileges and laundry facilities. This option offers the student the personal freedom of an apartment at a lower cost.
